Berkeley County Rescue Squad Saves Father & Son From Sinking Boat

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.--What was supposed to fun day of fishing on Lake Moultrie turned into anything but for a father and his young son. Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad was dispatched to the area of Blacks Camp in Cross for a report of a sinking boat. While out on the lake with his young son, the father's small bass boat began taking on water. That's when he called 9-1-1 for help from his cell phone. The rescue squad quickly responded and were assisted by DNR and Cross Rural Fire Department. Thirty minutes into the search, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad located the sinking boat. By this time, the inside of the father and son's boat was about two to three feet deep in water. Squad members picked up the father and son and safely carried them to Blacks Camp. EMS was on hand to make sure the father and son were okay.

2016 Moncks Corner Medical Center Catfish Tournament Was A Success!!!!

We want to say a big THANK YOU to all those who came out and participated in the catfish tournament on April 30th. The weather was perfect! In the 23 years that we've been doing this, this one topped them all. We raised over $16,000--the most ever. The community participation was awesome. We had a huge turnout. Even if you didn't take part in the tournament, it was still fun to watch the weigh ins as well as take part in the raffle prizes. Here are a list of the catfish tournament winners from over the weekend: Below, you'll also find some video highlights from the event. We hope you had fun. 21st annual catfish tournament fast approaching!

MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—Every year, the Berkeley Co. Rescue Squad answers dozens of calls, including but not limited to water rescues, land searches and traffic accidents. “The rescue squad is an all volunteer organization. We don’t charge a fee for our services,” said Bill Salisbury, who is not only the chief of the squad but also the county coroner. In order to provide its services to the community, the rescue squad relies heavily on donations. On April 26th the squad will host its biggest fundraising event, the 21st annual Moncks Corner Medical Family Open Catfish Tournament. “This fundraiser is a very big part of our budget,” stressed Salisbury. The money raised will go toward purchasing new equipment, maintaining current equipment and daily operations of the squad. The event will take place at the Dennis Boat Landing, which is across from Gilligan’s Restaurant in Moncks Corner.
