Berkeley Co. Rescue Squad, DNR respond to sinking boat, save 3 boaters

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.--Shortly before 9 p.m.,  the Berkeley County Rescue Squad was dispatched to a sinking boat in the middle of Lake Moultrie.

Also assisting in the search was the SC Dept. of Natural Resources.

According to Chief Bill Salisbury, 40-year-old James Feagin; his son, 20-year-old Jessie Feagin; and

41-year-old James Garrett all of Moncks Corner were boating in the lake when a wave came into the boat, causing it to fill with water.

Salisbury says they were able to grab life jackets before the boat sank. They were also able to call

9-1-1 and keep the cell phone above the water line and provide directions.

The three were rescued by a DNR officer at 9:30 p.m.

This is the second rescue in the last several weeks involving 3 people and a sinking boat.

Salisbury says two things helped save the lives of these three people: life jackets and cell phones.

Berkeley County Rescue Squad Locates Missing Boaters

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.--Two boaters who went missing for several hours were safely located by first responders early Sunday morning. Around 3:30 a.m., the Berkeley County Rescue Squad, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and Pimlico Fire Department were dispatched to the Cypress Gardens boat landing to search for the missing men. Loved ones of the two boaters reportedly became concerned after they failed to return home Saturday evening. Less than an hour into the search, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad located the missing men near Pimlico. The men stated they were unfamiliar with the area, got lost, became low on gas and their phones stopped working and couldn’t call for help. After locating the two men, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad made sure they got back safely to the boat landing.

Berkeley County Rescue Squad Recovers Drowning Victim's Body

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of Sunday’s drowning victim on the Cooper River near Pimlico. According to Coroner Bill Salisbury, the victim has been identified as 21-year-old Hunter Morris of Goose Creek. On Sunday around, 2:30 p.m. the Berkeley County Rescue Squad was dispatched to the Cooper River near Pimlico to a boating accident. A fisherman pulled a female out of the water and she was transported by EMS to a local hospital. Missing from the boat was the operator was the young man. A search was conducted using boats, aircraft, and divers. A Berkeley County Sheriff diver l ocated Morris’ body at 5:45 pm. His death has been ruled an accidental drowning by Coroner Salisbury.
