Berkeley County Rescue Squad Locates Missing Boaters



BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.--Two boaters who went missing for several hours were safely located by first responders early Sunday morning.

 Around 3:30 a.m., the Berkeley County Rescue Squad, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and Pimlico Fire Department were dispatched to the Cypress Gardens boat landing to search for the missing men.

 Loved ones of the two boaters reportedly became concerned after they failed to return home Saturday evening.

 Less than an hour into the search, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad located the missing men near Pimlico.

 The men stated they were unfamiliar with the area, got lost, became low on gas and their phones stopped working and couldn’t call for help.

 After locating the two men, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad made sure they got back safely to the boat landing.

Rescue Squad Celebrates Milestone, Honors Deputies Shot In The Line Of Duty

As always, the food was amazing. We also celebrated a huge milestone. It's hard to believe, but we've been in operation for 50 years now and still going strong. We hope to be around serving the community for many more years to come! In attendance at last night's dinner were also two very special guests: Cpl. Kimber Gist and Captain Will Rogers with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office. Both were shot in the line of duty nine months apart from one another. Kimber & Will share a hug. Chief Bill Salisbury and the rest of the rescue squad honored them both with the "Hero of the Year" award. Berkeley Co. Rescue Squad considers using drones to assist with searches

MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—The Berkeley Co. Rescue Squad is looking into the possibility of using to drones to assist with future searches.   Representatives with SkyView Aerial Solutions, a company out of Mount Pleasant that specializes in unmanned aerial solutions, met with rescue squad members on Thursday. On the outside, drones look like toy planes but do way more than just fly around.   Becoming increasingly popular with law enforcement, the military and other rescue agencies, drones come equipped with a video camera which makes it possible to conduct aerial searches without the need of a pilot. Several agencies in South Carolina already use drones to assist them on the job.   The Richland Co.
