Berkeley County Rescue Squad Raffling Off New Remington Shotgun
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.--How would you like a chance to win a brand new shotgun for just one dollar? Well, now here's your chance.
The Berkeley County Rescue Squad has announced its first ever raffle drawing fundraiser for a brand new Remington shotgun courtesy of Carolina Arms & Ammo in Moncks Corner. The shotgun is valued at over $300.
Since 1966, the Berkeley County Rescue Squad has been responding to emergencies throughout the state. Made up of all volunteers who answer calls 24/7, squad members handle land searches, water searches and vehicle extrication.
Their services are provided to the country free of charge. Believe it or not, the 30-person squad runs on a budget of just about $50,000 per year, Chief Bill Salisbury has said. Unfortunately, it takes money to maintain the level of service its volunteers provide. The money the agency currently receives comes from grants and kind donations from the community.
Along with the agency's annual catfish tournament, the squad is currently selling raffle tickets to generate additional funds. The goal is to raise at least $3,000 by December 10th.
Raffle tickets are being sold for $1 each. You can buy $10 or $20 worth to help out, and get 10-20 chances to win the shotgun. However, squad members say any amount, even $1 will help.
The money raised will go toward continued building maintenance, equipment maintenance and keeping the electricity on inside the building.
If you are interested in purchasing raffle tickets, contact the Berkeley County Rescue Squad at (843) 719-4295. You can also email The Berkeley Observer at news@berkeleyobserver.com or Chief Bill Salisbury at wsalisbury@homesc.com.
On October 1st (Thursday), anyone interested in winning the shotgun can come by the Berkeley County Rescue Squad building at 202 Factory Road in Moncks Corner to purchase tickets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Remember it's all for a good cause!
