Berkeley Co. Rescue recovers body from Tailrace Canal

Dennis Boat Landing in Moncks Corner MONCKS CORNER, S.C.—Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the Berkeley Co. Rescue Squad was dispatched to the Dennis Boat Landing for a rescue mission.    Members were assisted by SCDNR, the Berkeley Co. Sheriff’s Office, Moncks Corner Rural Fire Dept. and several other agencies. Less than an hour into the search, at 4:20 p.m., the Rescue Squad recovered the body of 21-year-old Mathew Gourdine of St. Stephen.   The young man’s death has been ruled as an accidental drowning.    The death was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the S C Dept. of Natural Resources.
Berkeley Co. Rescue Squad, DNR rescue three young boaters RUSSELLVILLE, S.C.—On Sunday at 11:00 p.m. dispatchers alerted the Berkeley Co. Rescue Squad in reference to an overturned boat. The Rescue Squad and SC DNR officers started a search on Lake Moultrie using 5 boats . At 1:30 a.m. the overturned boat was found in the middle of the lake by a rescue squad search boat. Family members were not sure where the boaters were going. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office located the Jeep and trailer at the Russellville Boat Landing after checking a number of the landings around the lake and the river. The Rescue Squad and SC DNR officers started a search on Lake Moultrie using 5 boats . At 1:30 a.m. the overturned boat was found in the middle of the lake by a rescue squad search boat.
